Bounce Rate: Should Traffic Stay or Should Traffic Go?

google analytics

Over at the Google Analytics blog, the value of minding your bounce rate was reiterated.

What exactly is bounce rate?

According to Google’s very own Avinash Kaushik, in a nutshell bounce rate measures the percentage of people who come to your website and leave “instantly”.- Daily Fix

Simply put, bounce rate shows how much of your traffic gets what they want from your site. Whether they stay to read more or leave as soon as they go to your site.

Got Multiple Gmail Accounts and Have Trouble Switching?

Gmail Account Logging in ProblemSwitching from one Gmail account to another that is.

It might be weird to have more than one Gmail account, but I’m using three - one for clients, one for subcontract workers, and one for my newsletter subscriptions.

And when I was still new with using these three Gmail accounts I often encounter problems with opening one just right after signing out from another.

I kept on being led to the same account when I try to sign out. It’s like an accordion-ish situation wherein I can’t get out of that Gmail account.

However, I soon discovered a way to get around this problem - Google Analytics. How?

When I tried to see if Google Analytics does the same thing (I only have one account for Google Analytics but I created another just to see if the signing out issue will still occur), there’s the option to “sign in as a different user”. That’s it! Whenever I can’t get out of one of my Gmail accounts, I sign in to my Google Analytics first as a different user to get led to a blank sign in page.

Google Analytics Date Range Compare to Past

I noticed just today that the Google Analytics date range option has added another option which allows users to compare a date range to another date range.

Google Analytics Date Range versus Date Range

Now we can check out the differences between two date ranges. This would be useful for checking out if there’s any pattern in your traffic flow. But I’m sure there’s much to this feature that I haven’t explored yet.

Google Analytics Now Allows Checking Your Site Stats Hour by Hour

Google Analytics Hourly Report

Thanks to the requests of search engine optimization or online marketing experts like Andy Beal, Danny Sullivan, publishers with massive traffic on their sites, or just those who are addicted on checking their stats almost every other minute can now enjoy Google Analytics new features:

  • AdWords Integration

Advertisers using AdWords can now more easily link this service to Google Analytics. With Placement Performance and Google Analytics, how more detailed can your campaign analysis get?

  • Hourly Reporting

Viewing by daily or hourly is now an option. I’m not sure I’m going to be using this feature too much right now but when my sites get to reach thousands of hits per hour, who knows?! :-D

  • Clickable URLs

The URLs on the Referring Sites, Top Content, Top Landing Pages and Top Exit Pages can now be clicked and can lead to external pages. This feature’s cool if you’d like to track those single links that are sending you lots of traffic.

  • Cross Segmentation by Network Location
  • Increased number of data rows per page
  • Bounce Rate increase/decrease

Here are the details of other added Google Analytics features.

Google Analytics Got a New Version

googanalyticsI’m bugged by this Google Analytics problem since a few days ago. And just today I’ve learned that Google Analytics will get an upgrade. I wonder if it’s the redesign that’s causing that custom date range problem I ran into everytime I change the setting of the dates I’d like to monitor. I just logged in today and it’s now all fixed up.

Back to the Google Analytics upgrade, here are the new improvements:

Email and export reports: Schedule or send ad-hoc personalized report emails and export reports in PDF format.

Custom Dashboard: No more digging through reports. Put all the information you need on a custom dashboard that you can email to others.

Trend and Over-time Graph: Compare time periods and select date ranges without losing sight of long term trends.

Contextual help tips: Context sensitive Help and Conversion University tips are available from every report.

The reporting interface got tweaked a bit and for more information, the FAQ can help.

I checked if the changes are already up, and nope not yet. According to Darren, we still have to wait for a few weeks before the upgrade takes effect.

More about this upgrade from the official Google Analytics blog.

Google Analytics Custom Date Range Problem

Google Analytics is one of the services of Google that shows the performance of websites in terms of the traffic they receive, what sites are referring traffic, what keywords are referring traffic to a site and more.

It’s been almost a year since I signed up for a Google Analytics account and I’m very pleased with its performance in tracking traffic on my sites.

However, this afternoon, I checked my Google Analytics account after a few days of not monitoring it. And when I started tweaking its settings I discovered that I can’t reset its ‘Custom Date Range’ section. See the snapshot below to see what’s wrong. All the dates except April 20 and May 6 are struck out. What gives? Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong?
