Internet Marketer Bans Google

Burnt by Google products’ volatility, an Internet marketing membership site from Cuzcom Internet Publishing bans any Google-related products. The site aptly named Internet Power Without Google, with Paul G. Curran as its webmaster, offers email marketing and Internet marketing courses (isn’t it email marketing a part of Internet marketing?)

According to Paul G. Curran…

“There comes a point in one’s life when you have to take a stand. I’ve read that a few good sites always seem to get caught up in the crossfire when Google changes its rules. One of my niche sites (gardening) was doing OK when, wham — no pages indexed, no adsense income, no sales. Several other sites followed. Although some folks believe that Google could be suffering from megalomania, I’ve just removed them from my business model; hence my site, Internet Power Without Google.”

Anyone excited to join Paul?

Google Apps Helps Colleges Go High Tech

Aside from the Library Search Project, one of Google’s “do no evil” educational endeavor is widely gaining popularity - its FREE assistance in modernizing the email systems of schools in the form of Google’s Apps for Education.

Google’s Apps for Education allows colleges to dump their often-antiquated e-mail systems and replace them with Gmail, Google’s popular e-mail service. But unlike standard Gmail accounts, schools can maintain their “.edu” addresses, have students log in from school Web sites, brand the system with their own logos and block advertisements that typically appear in standard Gmail accounts.

Among the first few schools to benefit from Google Apps include Hope College in Holland, Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. This education program also includes access to Google docs and spreadsheet, Google calendar, and iGoogle.

Google Maps Launches Street View Feature

Catching up with Windows Street View, Google Maps has also launched its own Street View. The speculations started when Google was spotted getting domain names with “Google Street View” registered.

Street View is a new feature of Google Maps that enables users to view and navigate within 360 degree street level imagery of various cities in the US. Street View provides users with a rich, immersive browsing experience directly in Google Maps, enabling greater understanding of a specific location or area. Street View imagery will initially be available for maps of the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Las Vegas, Denver and Miami, and will soon expand to other metropolitan areas. By clicking on the “Street View” button in Google Maps, users can navigate street level, panoramic imagery. With Street View users can virtually walk the streets of a city, check out a restaurant before arriving, and even zoom in on bus stops and street signs to make travel plans. Press release

According to Mashable, it’s not yet live for many of the locations. But big cities like New York, Denver, Miami, Las Vegas and San Francisco has it already. Please click the image to see a larger view.

BlackBerry 8800 Shows You the Way

BlackBerry 8800, one of the feature-packed BlackBerry mobile phones, with it QWERTY keypad and GPS, has another feature to boast of - Google Maps for Mobile.

BlackBerry 8800 Google Maps for Mobile

Downloading Google Maps for Mobile will inform you automatically where your location is when you check your BlackBerry 8800 smartphone.

When you download Google Maps for mobile and fire it up, you’ll notice something quite unusual: a blinking blue dot showing you exactly where you are! You can use your auto-detected location to get directions and perform local searches without even entering your location — instead of “pizza 94043″, just enter “pizza” — and we’ll automatically know you want pizza in the zip code “94043.”

When will Nokia smartphones such as the e61i have the same feature?

A Tool for Niche Bloggers

Google TrendsIf you’re a fan of Google Trends, a service that shows what’s hot in a country which allows comparison to other countries, then you’d be glad Google added the Hot Trends feature.

Hot Trends enables users to see a list of the current top 100 fastest-rising Google search queries in the U.S. Users can also select specific dates to see what the top-rising searches were at a given point in time.

I find this very useful to those who have or are just planning to setup niche blogs. The more searched the information you deliver, the more chances of getting traffic, right? NOT! If you’re just starting on your blog that is. But with the right content, competition assessment, and blog promotion tactics, sure.

As of this writing, the Hot Trends results include the following:

1. american idol winner

2. who won american idol

3. american idol finale

Guess you now know what do the Google users in the US have in common, huh?

Have More Fun GTalking: Create Gmail Emoticons

Gmail GTalk EmoticonsJust when I thought, it’s only Yahoo! Messenger that has the most fun emoticons, Rico Mossesgeld, a contract working guru with a very informative blog, shared some tips on how to create more Gmail emoticons aside from the generic ones.

Although they’re not as colorful or as emotional such as the crying and laughing emoticons from YM, still something that will make GTalking less of a bore, right?

Gmail’s smilies do more than express emotions. Such as hug (awwww), raise its arms up for joy, be a caterpillar, and even give the double-finger salute. All you need is a little imagination , an affinity for one-line ASCII art, and the willingness of your recipient to receive nonsensical messages. Gmail chat only works with online contacts after all.

Just one problem, I have no affinity for ASCII art. :`(

Check out more of Rico’s post about this.
